Christopher Cowdray, has been the chief executive officer (CEO) of The Dorchester Collection since 2007. The Dorchester Collection is a luxury hotel operator in Europe and the United States which is owned by the Dorchester Group, Ltd. A native Zimbabwean, he has a degree in hotel management and has managed hotels in several other countries, such as Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and the UK and has been in the business for more than 30 years.
In order to do that, he says that hotels have to provide amenities to their customers such as having the right kind of restaurant, and things like spas, and other personalized services. “Guests are used to choices,” Cowdray told reporters recently. “They want the overall experience and if they get it, they add value to a hotel.”
Cowdray recently was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Hospitality Awards. The esteemed award recognizes someone for their service they provide to the hotel community. It’s judged by people who work in the hospitality sector. He says that it is vital to put the customer first and means for his people to keep on doing that as they add in additional hotels to the fold.
“We look at customer satisfaction closely,” he said. “We also put a lot of time into ensuring that our workers are highly motivated and we have a 90 percent employee satisfaction rate.” Cowdray added that people are the reason they exist and that customers want a flawless and efficient stay with everything provided with a smile.
Besides being prominent in the hotel industry, Cowdray is also a Fellow of the Hotel Catering Institute Management Association, as well as a Master Innholder, and an honorary Professor at Thames Valley University. He was also a past Chairman of the British Hospitality Association.
All in all, he has had, and continues to have a very prestigious career and expects to continue growing his hotels and providing excellent services to his customers.
