Truthfully speaking, most people on earth are quite fascinated with rally driving. However, only a fortunate few ever get the chance to become rally drivers, let alone go on to excel as one. One such fortunate individual is Michel Terpins. The 40-year old Brazilian driver has more than a decades’ experience in motorsport. During this extensive career, he has participated in numerous rallies in Brazil and gone on to win quite a few of them. His latest win at the recently concluded Sertoes rally was also his greatest ever win, having taken part in the previous nine editions without ever coming first.
Michel Terpins’s entry into motorsport was to a great length facilitated by the influence and support of his family. His father, a former basketball player, encouraged him to be expressive in his love for sports. His elder brother, Rodrigo Terpins, who is also a successful rally driver today, paved the way for Michel by being the first in the family to take an interest in the sport. Additionally, the healthy rivalry in the sport that the two brothers developed growing up greatly helped them grow in it.
The annual Sertoes rally is arguably one of the most grueling in the Brazilian motorsport calendar. This year’s edition was done across 3,300 km of offroad terrain that cut through a number of states. This massive distance was divided into seven sections that took a number of days to complete. Michel Terpins was driving in his usual T-11 prototype category. He managed to take control of the race in the third section, which was also the marathon section, of the rally. His win in the rally also elevated him to take the first position in the national championship in his category.
Michel Terpins’s consistent success is rallies is to a great extent also facilitated by his support team – the Bull Sertoes Rally Team. The main drivers under the team’s fold are Michel and his brother Rodrigo. Among the sponsors of the team is MEM-Motorsport which provides the team with mechanical and technical support. In fact, it is the builder of the T-Rex car that Michel has been racing for the last few years.
