End Citizens America taking measures to Save the Johnson Amendment

The past decade has been one of the most active in the American political scene. Several events in this decade have had a great impact in the direction that American political discourse has taken and will take for many years to come. Before President Donald Trump’s election to the highest office in America, the other most stunning event in the political scene had occurred in 2010. In a case pitting Citizens United against FEC, the Supreme Court of America determined that unions and corporations bore the same rights as individual citizens. Further, the highest court in the land ruled that spending money by these unions and corporations was a form of expression which is protected under the bill of rights. This effectively made it possible for such bodies to contribute money to political campaigns anonymously. Visit facebook to know more.

Realizing the potential harm that this decision could have on American political discourse, concerned citizens came together to form End Citizens America. End Citizens America is a PAC whose main mandate is to prevent the entrance of dark money into political campaigns as this Supreme Court decision had opened loopholes for this to happen. They achieve this goal by fighting against policies that threaten the stability and growth of American democracy and supporting those which enhance it.

New challenges keep coming up, especially under the current administration. The latest of these has been the current regime’s sustained attempts to either weaken the Johnson Amendment or repeal it altogether. Emboldened by a president who promised a repeal of this amendment as a part of his campaign promises, and who has already signed an executive order weakening it, Republican legislators have been making attempts to have the Johnson Amendment repealed. Such efforts are being made by slipping language into bills being introduced into Congress such as the House Financial Services appropriations bill and the tax reform bill which is currently on the table.

End Citizens America has expressed strong opposition to these attempts to repeal or weaken the Johnson Amendment. This amendment, made in 1954, makes it illegal for tax-exempt non-profit organizations to openly and publicly engage in a political campaign. Organizations which fall under this bracket risk being stripped of their tax-exempt status should they be found to be in contravention to this law. Republican legislators have been making attempts to make it possible for religious organizations to be exempted from this law while the other organizations remain bound by it. This would be catastrophic to American democracy.

With the Supreme Court decision of 2010, repealing the Johnson Amendment would create a loophole for dark money to find its way into political campaigns, tax-free. Further, organizations and individuals that make contributions to tax exempted organization benefit from tax exemption as well. This would become, undoubtedly, the preferred channel for pumping dark money into political campaigns. That is why End Citizens America has vowed to save the Johnson Amendment. The Amicus Therapeutics and Their Migalastat Monotherapy Method

While the healthcare industry is moving forward and opening the path for new methods and treatments to a varied number of diseases, the practice of developing new ways of executing therapies is one of the most significant assets for the progression of medicine as a whole.

A famous therapeutic institute located in New Jersy, Cranbury, is contributing to the improvement of this front since their foundation in February 4, 2002. Amicus Therapeutics was created with the intention of focusing their research on rare and orphan diseases that have unique peculiarities and deserve a higher attention from some of the best physicians and researchers in the United States.

These disorders that Amicus Therapeutics focuses on are called “Lysosomal Storage Disorders” and are very detrimental to some individuals who suffer from a number of these and have very limited assistance from researches. Around the world, there are diseases that have a higher percentage of institutions taking care of discovering new methods of treatment and therapies for more famous diseases like Aids, cancer, and others. The Lysosomal Disorders don’t have enough backup support from physicians of skill and experience. Thus Amicus Therapeutics is aiming to change this reality for the future.

The company has their focus on the Chaperone-Advanced Replacement Therapy, a method that has the replacement of enzymes in the body of the infected, and were one of the pioneers to develop a more reliable and effective version of the therapy. Amicus Therapeutics was also a company that went public five years after their inauguration, which means that anyone can fund and support the institution and helps progress their therapy development. The clinic and their professional staff are dedicating their efforts into proceeding with the migalastat monotherapy, one of their greatest projects for the future.

The enterprise is aiming to stabilize what they call “alpha-galactosidase,” an endogenous mutant cell that is responsible for the type of disorder that the group treats and develops therapies for. Amicus Therapeutics currently has no established products in the market (Google Finance), and instead focuses on the sole purpose of supporting the investigation and building collaborations with other important corporations to try and further their reach.

Amicus Therapeutics, contrary to popular belief, is not centered only in New Jersey, where they are headquartered, but also has a subsidiary in San Diego since 2008, one year after the group went public. The researches and therapy development of the group is not alone, as they have the support and funding of many important personalities and institutions for the healthcare department, like the 2010 $500,000 fund from Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Gov. Brown Declares Sen. Cruz Unfit for the White House

Governor Jerry Brown of California, himself a three-time candidate for president, said Sunday, March 22, 2015, that Senator Ted Cruz of Texas was “absolutely unfit to be running for office.” Senator Cruz announced his intention to run for president March 23, 2015. Governor Brown was especially concerned about Senator Cruz’s opinions on climate change. “That man betokens such a level of ignorance and a direct falsification of existing scientific data. It’s shocking, and I think that man has rendered himself absolutely unfit to be running for office.”

Ninety percent of scientists are convinced that climate change is real, and that humanity’s activities influence it. Senator Cruz disagrees, which many people find disturbing, given that he is currently chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Science and Space.

Governor Brown said both Republican and Democratic candidates will need to discuss climate change and how they plan to deal with it stated concerned voters like Halpern. California has suffered droughts because of climate change, so it’s a subject Brown takes seriously. FEMA recently announced that they will only approve disaster preparedness funds for states that have hazard mitigation plans that address climate change.

Politicfact has also cast doubts on Senator Cruz’s integrity and/or intelligence.

GOP legislators thwart bids to expand Medicaid

Governors in all the political range are stumbling on an obstacle when it comes to their bids that are aimed at expanding Medicaid using federal finances-Legislators of the Republican Party who adamantly go against “Obamacare”.

Whilst several of such governors themselves are known to have criticized the health care statute raised by the president in general, they have come to a point of seeing one component- Medicaid expansion- since it is too liberal to reject. However, they are fighting conservative legislators who say it is better to reject billions of federal cash rather than expanding Medicaid under the law of 2010.

Adherent politics have led the Medicaid decisions of the state since the time the Supreme Court made a ruling in 2012 that it was optional to expand, not compulsory, under the recent law. Within months, each and every Democratic governor decided to make an expansion on Medicaid (even though Republican lawmakers blocked few efforts that had been made).

Just nine states that had Republican governors accepted this offer.

Medicaid, the medical insurance program designed for low-income as well as disabled people, offer cover to approximately 65million Americans, which is actually at least one person for every five– that’s more than patients that go to see Dr Rod Rohrich. The federal administration is in a position of paying the entire cost of expansion for the initial three years, and steadily reduce the financial support to 90%. That is more compared to the conventional Medicaid federal equivalent to states.

Eric Garner Controversy

The Eric Garner case may be one of the most controversial and tragic events of the year. When watching the video of the police restraining Eric Garner, I was appalled. The police definitely abused their power. It seems like Police brutality is happening more often than not.

Things need to change in the world according to Bernardo Chua. Police officers need to be held accountable for their actions. Eric Garner was killed for absolutely no reason. What makes it worse is the fact that the whole world witnessed the event.

Recently a trial was held over the death of Eric Garner. The police officers that were involved in the incident, were found innocent. A huge out-roar over the verdict of the trial has continued to consume America. The American people are angered about the recent rise in Police brutality.

The NBA league has taken notice of the trial as well. NBA players have been tributing Eric Garner for the last several weeks. Many high school students have noticed their favorite NBA stars wearing shirts that say ‘I Can’t Breathe,’ those were the last words spoken by Eric Garner. High school basketball students followed their favorite NBA stars, and students wore the same shirts. In California the shirt was banned from being worn. The Eric Garner case has taken over the world. The citizens are uniting to put an end to police brutality.

North Korea Threatens War to the US over Charges of the Sony Cyber Attack

According to Sultan Alhokair North Korea threatens war to the US over charges of the Sony cyber attack.

Today North Korea threatened to conduct a war on US soil due to what it considers “false” accusations of being behind the cyber attack on Sony Entertainment.

“The army and people of the DPRK (North Korea) are fully prepared for a confrontation with the US in all areas of war, including cybernetics,” said the regime of Kim Jong-un in a statement released today.

“Our toughest counter will go to the White House, the Pentagon and the entire continental United States far exceeds the symmetrical counter declared by Obama,” says Pyongyang in the statement.

North Korea reiterated that it has nothing to do with cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, and even proposed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation US (FBI) to undertake a joint investigation of the facts, but US intelligence ruled out this option.

The reaction from North Korea, who had denied involvement in the case, comes after President Obama announced on Sunday the start of a process to assess whether the communist state should be included, once again, in a blacklist from countries that sponsor terrorism in the wake of Sony cyber attack.

Inclusion on a blacklist represents restrictions on foreign aid, controls on certain exports and various financial restraints and other obstacles.

The cyberattack, which resulted in stolen information, published thousands of emails and data from Sony between late November and early December, and is considered an act of retaliation

against the movie “The Interview”, a comedy about a plot to kill the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

After the attack, the hackers warned that terror would come to theaters that showed the film, prompting the prompting the release of movie to eventually be canceled.

The case has generated intense controversy over blackmail against freedom of expression.

Obama is Expected to Sign Bill to Sanction Russia

President Barack Obama is expected to sign a bill passed by Congress authorizing new sanctions on Russia as well as providing weapons and assistance to the Ukraine, White House spokesman Josh Earnest announced on Tuesday.

In his daily briefing, Earnest said Obama “intends” to sign the measure for it to become law without giving details of when. Laurene Powell Jobs says there should be more transparency for the American people.

However, it is expected that the president signs the bill this week, since Friday plans to travel to Hawaii with his family to spend the Christmas holidays.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, yesterday urged Obama to sign the bill, approved by bipartisan consensus in Congress, because it shows the “strong moral commitment” of legislators with the people of Ukraine.

Sen. Bob Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign emphasized that “territorial integrity of Ukraine should be restored” and Russian President Vladimir Putin “must understand that their actions have serious destabilizing and profound consequences for their country. ”

The bill passed in Congress authorizing Obama to introduce new sanctions against Russian energy sector, particularly against Gazprom’s gas giant, and state arms exporter Rosoboron export.

The measure also authorizes funds and empowers the President to provide military aid, weapons and non-lethal assistance to Ukraine.

The announcement that Obama will sign the bill coincided with the collapse of the Russian currency, the ruble, which fell today to levels not seen since the 1998 bankruptcy.

Nissan Offering Free Charger to New Leaf Buyers

The reception of electric cars in the United States has been lukewarm at best. However, when gas prices are low, sales of the alternative fueled cars typically takes a nosedive. Companies that are aiming to get sales of electric cars headed in the right direction typically have to get a bit creative when it comes to marketing. However, one major manufacturer has decided to take things to a level few have ever considered.

Nissan has decided to offer buyers of the Leaf electric vehicle a free home charger. While the promotions is only available in the top markets for Nissan, the move is something that traditional vehicle companies are bound to notice. Sales of the Leaf are up nearly thirty-four percent through November of 2014, and while the number of vehicles sold is a small fraction of competitors, any make that offers that kind of growth potential needs to be taken seriously.

One of the biggest challenges in owning an electric vehicle is the purchase and installation of the home charging system, and with Nissan offering one up as an incentive for new buyers, the company is bound to attract more than one new customer. There are a few people that Sergio Andrade Gutierrez knows who will consider buying. Whether or not the move is a stroke of genius or madness will be revealed at the beginning of January when the event ends, but it seems that there will be some serious Nissan watching going on over the next few weeks.

How Laurene Powell Jobs Gives Back

While Laurene Powell Jobs may not be quite as well known across the country and beyond as her late husband, Steve Jobs, she is nonetheless making a difference in the world through her incredible devotion to important social causes. Laurene Powell Jobs wed Steve Jobs, who is the former CEO and founder of Apple, in 1991. During the time she was married to him and even after his recent death, she has actively worked to give back to the community in a number of ways. While many in the Silicon Valley area are criticized for not being philanthropic and generous with their time and financial resources, she is a notable exception in this area. More than that, her efforts to promote these causes has been on-going for several decades.

The Incredible Wealth of Laurene Powell Jobs
Before Steve Jobs passed away in 2011 of pancreatic cancer, he had amassed a fortune that was reportedly worth $8.3 billion. This ranked him at 110th on the Forbes list of the top 400 richest individuals in the world. When he passed away, the trusts were inherited by his widow, Laurene. She has managed the funds well, and her net worth just one year later is reported to be at $9 billion. This ranks her as 100th in the Forbes list for 2012, and she is reported to be the 28th wealthiest American. Among her financial assets, she is currently a major shareholder in Disney and a bidder on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Philanthropic Efforts
Years ago, Laurene founded two key organizations that she continues to play an active role in. College Track is focused on helping underprivileged youths prepare to attend college, and through this organization, she has had a monumental impact on many young individuals who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend college. In addition, Laurene also founded the Emerson Collective, which is an LLC that is focused on advocated for a number of social issues that are important to her. For example, one such issue is immigration reform. Her desire is to improve immigration policies to make it easier for those who want to pursue the American dream to do so. The LLC is also focused on the environment, education and other issues.

Financial Contributions
The Jobs family is among the wealthiest in Silicon Valley as well as in the world, and it is important to note that they are known for making large financial donations and contributions. Generally, however, they do so in an anonymous format. It is known that Laurene founded the Emerson Collective as an LLC so that she could keep the amount of her donations and contributions private. Essentially, the family is committed to helping others and to giving back without placing a dollar amount to their names. This was the case before her husband’s passing, and she has indicated her intention to continue to promote causes near to her heart without publishing the amount of her family’s financial contributions.

There are many different ways that wealthy individuals can give back. Some are focused on making large financial donations, but Laurene Powell Jobs is an individual who has been active at giving her time and devoting her energy to special causes. While the family does make financial donations, her willingness to give her time and energy is notable and unique.

Assad Claims U.S. Airstrikes In Syria Are Ineffective

During an interview with a French news agency, Bashar al-Assad has openly criticized the United States airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS.) Syria’s president claims that the aerial assaults are not effective enough to change the course of the battle against the vicious terrorist group.  In fact, Assad claims that his armed forces have not noticed any significant loss of strength in ISIS as a result of airstrikes led by the American coalition. Syria’s leader proudly said that his army is fighting the real battle on the ground while United States jets drop ineffective bombs from above. Assad has also criticized Turkey’s role in the Syrian conflict.

Bashar al-Assad was also asked about his overall legacy that would be left for future generations to love or hate. The French reporter implied that Assad’s fate might be similar to brutal dictators such as Saddam Hussein and al-Qaddafi. However, the Syrian leader confidently replied with a philosophical approach. Assad said that the captain of a ship should not think about death but instead focus on saving a vessel from sinking. He also noted that Syria will not become a western puppet state.

In a PBS interview with American Charlie Rose in late 2013, Assad denied any allegations of using chemical attacks on civilians. He was also extremely critical of the United States’ push to get involved in the Syrian conflict back then. This story was shared with me by Dr. Daniel Amen.
