The Amicus Therapeutics and Their Migalastat Monotherapy Method

While the healthcare industry is moving forward and opening the path for new methods and treatments to a varied number of diseases, the practice of developing new ways of executing therapies is one of the most significant assets for the progression of medicine as a whole.

A famous therapeutic institute located in New Jersy, Cranbury, is contributing to the improvement of this front since their foundation in February 4, 2002. Amicus Therapeutics was created with the intention of focusing their research on rare and orphan diseases that have unique peculiarities and deserve a higher attention from some of the best physicians and researchers in the United States.

These disorders that Amicus Therapeutics focuses on are called “Lysosomal Storage Disorders” and are very detrimental to some individuals who suffer from a number of these and have very limited assistance from researches. Around the world, there are diseases that have a higher percentage of institutions taking care of discovering new methods of treatment and therapies for more famous diseases like Aids, cancer, and others. The Lysosomal Disorders don’t have enough backup support from physicians of skill and experience. Thus Amicus Therapeutics is aiming to change this reality for the future.

The company has their focus on the Chaperone-Advanced Replacement Therapy, a method that has the replacement of enzymes in the body of the infected, and were one of the pioneers to develop a more reliable and effective version of the therapy. Amicus Therapeutics was also a company that went public five years after their inauguration, which means that anyone can fund and support the institution and helps progress their therapy development. The clinic and their professional staff are dedicating their efforts into proceeding with the migalastat monotherapy, one of their greatest projects for the future.

The enterprise is aiming to stabilize what they call “alpha-galactosidase,” an endogenous mutant cell that is responsible for the type of disorder that the group treats and develops therapies for. Amicus Therapeutics currently has no established products in the market (Google Finance), and instead focuses on the sole purpose of supporting the investigation and building collaborations with other important corporations to try and further their reach.

Amicus Therapeutics, contrary to popular belief, is not centered only in New Jersey, where they are headquartered, but also has a subsidiary in San Diego since 2008, one year after the group went public. The researches and therapy development of the group is not alone, as they have the support and funding of many important personalities and institutions for the healthcare department, like the 2010 $500,000 fund from Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Strategies Companies Employ Throughout Brazil in Advertising

Advertising in Brazil
Strategies for advertising in Brazil vary because of the economic status of the consumers. For advertising to be effective, the ads must reach their audience, and to reach their audience they must find the right mediums for the right ads.

Most Prevalent Advertising

In Noticias they write that terrestrial television ads have been growing rapidly in the past year, nearly a 55% increase, which is four times more than any other form of advertising. Following terrestrial TV ads is newspapers, which increased 13% this year. Marketers predict digital advertisements to dramatically increase in the near future, following the trend of the rest of the world, despite the 7% increase it has seen.

Opportunities

The World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics coming up in 2016 – Brazil has experienced wonderful conditions for massive advertising opportunities. Usually, futbol games on TV and local stadiums give advertisers a large audience to receive their advertisements, but international events lead the advertisements to reach to the far corners of the world. Millions of fans watch the World Cup and the Olympics, increasing the price of advertisements along with the reach.

The Ban

Brazil has been making movements to ban urban billboard advertisements threatening to poison the Brazilian aesthetics. In the early 2000s, urban advertising skyrocketed across Brazil, littering the cities with thousands of distracting advertisements flashing in every direction. Regulating the advertisements was far past city control, so cities decided to ban the advertisements collectively. In less than a year, 300,000 store front signs were removed and 15,000 billboards. Citizens have taken control into their own hands by removing advertisements by covering them with their own art. A movement was even lead to cover billboard ads with art.

The negative reaction to outdoor advertisements stems from a variety of reasons. Most commuters are tired of never being able to escape corporate influence. They walk to work viewing advertisements the entire way, then are constantly seeing ads as they work on their computer, then the whole commute home again, and for the rest of the evening as they try to relax and watch television.

Cláudio Loureiro is the founder of Heads Propaganda, a successful advertising agency. His success has helped him to expand his business in Brazil, acquiring some of the largest companies for his advertising strategies. He is notorious as a clever inventor and problem solver, using his artistic and creative talent to find solutions to corporate awareness issues.

Albert Woodfox of Angola 3 Temporarily Blocked from Prison Release

Last week, Judge James Brady ruled that Albert Woodfox, dubbed the “Angola 3” prisoner should be released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary, but today a federal appeals court blocked that decision.

Woodfox was found guilty of killing a prison guard in 1972, and has been in solitary confinement since. The two other prisoners convicted of the killing have already been released. He’s always maintained his innocence, and the previous two convictions were overturned.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell feels Wilcox is exactly where he belongs, and has no intention of allowing Woodfox to get out that easily according to The Aspire New Brunswick.

68-year-old Woodfox is the only inmate in the country to have been in solitary confinement for so long. He suffers from a variety of health problems that the prison has never addressed, like hepatitis c and heart problems, which have worsened, in part to the solitary confinement .

The injunction blocking the release of Woodfox is temporary, and the court has until Friday to make another move.

ISIS Continues to Move

The terrorist organization ISIS continues to spread through Iraq and looks to take control of the town of Ramadi by the end of the day. There have been firefights taking place around the city, which is a crucial strongpoint just 70 miles outside of Baghdad, the largest city in Iraq. Ramadi is also the capital of the Anbar province. Sam Tabar has learned that, currently, government troops have been fighting to hold back the city, But ISIS has grown so large that it is spreading through and is set to take control of the city.

The deputy head of the city said in an recent interview that he had warned the government that this would happen if the country did not send more troops to the region, as the ultimate goal is to spread throughout the Middle East, and taking control of Iraq remains a large step.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi met with United States President Barack Obama in the US to ask for assistance in the fight against ISIS. The United States has been leading air attacks against ISIS and helped assist Iraqi forces defeat ISI in the city of Tikrit. However, with US troops out of Iraq and pulling out of Afghanistan, the U.S. president does not want to start sending out more ground troops to another conflict inside of the Middle East, especially one that is currently not directly affecting the United States.

Iran Wants Sanctions Lifted The Same Day They Sign Nuke Deal

President Hassan Rouhani Said “We Will Not Sign Any Deal Unless All Sanctions Are Lifted On The Same Day”

The United States and the other five countries involved in the nuclear agreement with Iran have a decision to make. Iran wants all sanctions lifted the day the agreement is signed. The U.S. previously said the sanctions would be lifted in phases. Iran economy is suffering from the sanctions, and they have had enough. They want the agreement to be a win-win for all involved, and the only way that can happen is the immediate removal of all sanctions at the signing table.

President Hassan Rouhani said, The Iranian nation will come out on top and be the victor in the negotiations, but the United States may have a different opinion. The U.S. never agreed to lifting sanctions on the same day. The U.S. has repeatedly said sanctions will be lifted after international monitors verify Iran’s compliance with the agreement. If Iran doesn’t conform, the sanctions will resume.

Jaime Garcia Dias (twitter.com) has learned that supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the agreement may not be signed by the June deadline because the United States made statements about the agreement that were false. Khamenei also said the talks so far don’t guarantee an agreement, and the negotiations may end at any time.

Massive Disruptions in Global Swine Industry

Some big changes have occurred recently in the global swine industry. An epidemic of highly contagious swine influenza, a lethal pig disease that some people have compared to Ebola in humans, is presently sweeping through Eastern Europe. Concern exists that it may soon reach other countries. The disease broke out in Georgia, then rapidly spread to Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland. Some critics complain open and unchecked EU borders may be contributing to the rapid spread. Symptoms reportedly do not appear in swine until five to ten days following infection.

In the United States, consolidation is occurring within the pork industry to a much greater extent than during previous years. In 2013, a large Chinese agribusiness, Shuanghui International Holdings, Limited, the largest swine packing company in China, purchased Smithfield Foods, a major U.S. pork producer for an estimated $4.72 billion dollars. Now called the WH Group, the privately held company is currently the largest swine agribusiness in the world. It reportedly maintains facilities in 26 U.S. states, ten EU nations and Mexico. It employees some 46,000 people and earns revenues estimated to approach $13 billion annually.

The state legislature in Nebraska, a state responsible for both extensive cattle and swine production, is presently considering amendments to state laws to allow large swine producers to expand their operations into additional counties within the state. Some beef producing organizations oppose the exemption provisions.

Health experts like researchers at the Amen Clinic suggest cutting pork from your diet while the risk is live.

Skout: The New Way To Connect And Communicate

Just when we thought our face-to-face time with friends was becoming extinct, we know have one more reason to believe it’s true. There’s a new iOS app. It’s called Skout. It’s the new way to engage with friends and meet new people. It’s especially good for those who are always busy and working. Some of us don’t have time anymore to go out to a bar and meet someone new, even if it is a friend. This is why the Skout app is perfect.

It’s sort of become an extension of Facebook. You can sign in with your Facebook account or email address. You upload all your information. You tell the system if you are interested in men or women.

When you see profile pictures on your phone, you can tap on one. The profile will pop up, along with some information on the person. It will say the name, as well as some of the last posts he or she made. You can all kinds of things with their profile. You can send them a “wink.” You can block or report them. I only suggest doing this if there is any real danger. You should also do this if you have no desire to speak to the person. Just flag them in the system, they won’t bother you anymore.

You can send flirty texts to them. You will be notified when they are online and off. You accrue points with each activity you do. The more points you earn, the more you can engage with each person you like.

This comes in handy when there is a person on the network you are interested in getting to know. The more visible you make yourself, the more attention you will get. As I said before, it’s a good way to meet new people. It’s a great way to interact with the friends you already have. Your friends can send you thing and vise versa.

There has been some debate over how much conversation can actually happen on Skout. I guess it all depends on the person you are. Some people like to be friendly, but not too chatty. If this is you, then this is the type of app you need. You can be visible, without being too visible. It’s the perfect way to start off slow with a new relationship. As the interest builds, you can upgrade to something more.

Venezuela and Iran Work to Forge Close Ties

Earlier this month, press reports published in Iran reflected the success of efforts by the governments of Iran and Venezuela to forge closer international ties. An Iranian media outlet announced via LinkedIn that the two nations have sought to expand treaties of mutual support in several areas recently, including automobiles, oil, banking and general commerce said Gianfrancesco Genoso. The Iranian television station indicated: “Relations between Iran and Venezuela have transcended to a strategic level ever since Hugo Chavez became the president of the oil-rich Latin American country.”

As part of this effort of closer cooperation, Iran sent engineers to assist Venezuela in constructing a huge cement manufacturing facility in the southern Venezuelan City of Maturin, located some 500 kilometers to the east of Caracas. The government of Venezuela, headed by Hugo Chavez’ successor Nicolas Maduro, reportedly expended the equivalent of $400 million dollars to build the facility, a significant expenditure in a nation with a struggling economy. Experts believe the new plant will produce 1,000,000 tons of concrete per annum. An Iranian government official, Mahdi Karbasian, of the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry journeyed from Iran to attend the opening ceremonies in conjunction with Venezuelan Minister Fernando Martinez.

Just last month, President Maduro visited three Middle Eastern nations: Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran, another sign of warm relations between Venezuela and Iran. He described his visit to Teheran as an effort to “advance established agreements.”

Man is First in His Village to Receive a Refrigerator

Many of us in the first world take appliances for granted. Sure, when there is a power outage you realize how much you rely on them but then the power is restored and we forget how important that appliance is to our lives again.

There is a story on BBC news about Santosh Chowdhury who lives in the village of Rameshwarpur in India, just outside of Calcutta. Santosh is a tailor and his wife Sushoma tends the home and cooks meals every single day. They are also the first people in their village of 200 to have a refrigerator. According to Santosh, Sushoma was cooking every single day for their family yet had no where to store any left overs. They were spending money at the market everyday and wasting leftover foods so they decided to purchase a refrigerator.

The couple has dreamed of owning a refrigerator for the last ten years but the cost of one is greater than a month’s pay for Santosh. They family saved as much as they could though and were finally able to purchase their dream appliance. When it was delivered the neighbors in their village stopped by to marvel at it and it’s possibilities. The Chowdhury’s have agreed to help some of their neighbors out and store things for them.

Reader Lee G. Lovett was wondering what the first items they put in the fridge were. The answer? Eggs, milk, a tomato, and an eggplant.
